Louis I. Kaplan has been a partner of Fisher & Winner since 1988, and manages the Firm's employee benefits law practice and provides estate and trust planning services to its professional and business clientele. Mr. Kaplan serves as co-director of the Firm's disabled veteran guardianship practice, which includes management of all facets of the guardianship estates and their assets.
Before entering the private practice of law in 1970, Mr. Kaplan served as an attorney at the National Office of the Internal Revenue Service in the areas of estate and gift taxation and qualified employee retirement plans. A graduate of the University of Maryland at College Park (B.A. 1962) Mr. Kaplan received his law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1965.
He is admitted to practice before the Court of Appeals of Maryland and the United States Tax Court. A lecturer before business, civic and professional groups on employee benefits planning and estate planning topics, Mr. Kaplan is an active member of the Maryland State Bar Association and the Baltimore Estate Planning Counsel, where he served as President from 1999-2000.
